Cucumber and Quail in the Garden

The quail garden has been occupied for about 3 months now. I have a flock of nine birds and as you can see from the pictures below a very large cucumber plant. Originally, I planted a cucumber plant in each of the four paddocks but only one survived being trampled by the quail. That one seems to have compensated though.

There is a 3/4″ gap at the ridge that the cucumber plant grew through and managed to cover a good portion of the structure
Fortunately, I installed a couple of powerful struts on each door to support the extra weight
In addition to the cucumber I have so small blackberry and rosemary shrubs on the go
This paddock has had about nine days off and you can see the wheat grass is coming up nicely. I’m hoping the air potato will succeed the cucumber and be a perennial option
We’ve harvested several cucumbers already and have several on the way
